Sparkles for 2012

As I was working on yesterday’s post, Nyla was busy with her new mini post-it notes, which she just loves!!  She bought them with her own money, so our Costa Rica fund is down a little bit.  I heard her ask my husband for some glitter, normally that would raise some red flags and then she got some little jars.  After a while Nyla said, Mommy put this in your blog.  As I looked over my heart just beamed and I think this is just perfect for New Year’s wishes.
Nyla's recipe for happiness,  each of these sparkles add up to what you need.
I say throw in a little family and dreams and you are set!
Happy 2012!!!  Here's to US and our dream accomplishments!!  Thank you for supporting me!

I lied...and the Things I cannot believe!

Well yesterday, I was already to embrace the cold winter season but what I did not do was go outside yet.
So when we realized exactly how cold it was Nyla immediately said lets count my piggy bank money maybe there’s enough to go to Costa Rica.  So we did and there wasn’t.  So the grumpies set in.

By the end of the day I found a few things that made me laugh     (and that made my family so much happier) and by the end of it became:

Things I cannot believe:
  1. 1.  My to-do list (for those who know me this is quite funny) but we were trying to plan our day and these were the day’s events – surfing for Andy, ice skating for family, Nyla got a zip line from Santa, we have it up but we wanted to expand it)  I love looking at this to-do list, it makes me feel so fit! :) We did the surfing and ice skating and just to let you know I'm still the hoovering next to wall type skater.
  2.  The size of the easy bake oven!  This was a very cool gift from Grandma and Pop Pop.  I remember having one and thought it was the best! Now what I didn't remember was the size of the cookies.  I think they are perfect tea party, fairy size cookies.  If I were to eat these cookies all the time I would never have to worry about getting into my swimsuit!  Here have a cookie.
  3. I don't have a picture of this but I can't believe we still have Easter, Halloween and now Christmas candy still around! I better get to munchin!
There that's it, the things I cannot believe and the things that pulled me out of the grumpy blues!   By the way, don't you just love how Nyla had a category for tooth fairy money and how she wrote her dollar bills - 1db

Puttin It...

I have to say I’m a little sad about putting the Christmas things away but I’m ready.  I’m ready to celebrate the cold, this cold season I want to keep dreaming and enhancing our children’s book, The Town of Plizz Dot,  promote Martine cards in hospitals (this is a new dream that I have), grow with my family and have as much silly fun as I can.
There, the end. (of a season that is)  Xxxooo

P.S  How are you feeling?

HMMM...

The other day I had both these said to me at the exact same time...

What if everybody on earth screamed at the same time.  What would it be like? It would be loud but feel good. (I gotta add this to Nyla's wow me words)

Hey, Shack may try professional wrestling...

These statements got me thinking in a funny sort of way, what about you?  :)

(in my opinion if everyone screamed a fun scream at the exact same time I think the world just has to be a feel better place, hmm maybe we can set something up?)

SANTA, I JUST LOVE YOU!!

Dear Santa,

I would like to thank you for being so thoughtful! Even though you are busier than anyone in the world right now you took the time to respond to our daughter, Nyla's letter.  Thank you Santa for being so magical!  You inspire us all!

We love you and have the deepest appreciation for all that you do!
Nyla's Mommy and Daddy

Here is the letter we found in our mailbox yesterday, Nyla added the star.  (I was a little nervous about letting Nyla open a letter that I wasn't sure of but I thought if I start opening her stuff now then yes I'll be one of those spying parents...already)

FREE COOKIES FOR SALE!

So, my daughter, Nyla had this amazing idea.  “Mommy, let’s make cookies and sell them to the neighborhood for free”.  I flashed back to this summer’s lemonade stand, which was quite successful and fun.  So I said, yes, to this kind and yummy idea.
I did however underestimate the time it takes to make homemade chocolate chip cookies and gingerbread cookies with Nyla and her two friends, Stella and Leo.  After all the tasting of batter, chocolate chips, sprinkles, icing and candy and baking we were ready to go “sell” our free cookies.  The cookie stand was not in my mind a perfect pretty marketing package and I do like perfect pretty packages.  But, I thought we gotta get out there it’s the thought that counts and if I wait any longer it’s gonna be dark and we’ll never do this!
The napkins kept blowing off the table and down the sidewalk.  The sun was shining but it was cold and windy and the cars were not coming.  It was like a wintery ghost town.  The kids were so excited and weren’t easily deflated.  Thank goodness!  Finally!  Our first give-away was to a boy on a bike.  He was very thankful and very cold.  (I was thinking to myself that he would have really appreciated some hot cider or hot chocolate, I wanted to have that but just didn’t get done.)

Excitement filled the air.  Those kids, my Nyla and my 2 extra babies for the day were beaming and screaming at the top of their little lungs, “Free Cookies for sale, not even a penny you can have 4!”  It was so cute, I was frozen.  The kids did notice the avoided looks from the people who drove by.  I noticed the people trying to figure out what the sign said without looking at the kids.  Some people didn’t even notice us at all, which shows how oblivious we really can be as were driving!  We had a couple of walkers that refused to take a cookie.  I was kinda blown away by someone not taking a free, yummy super sprinkly cookie from cute kids.  I guess they took that old saying, don’t take food from a stranger to heart!
Well the day ended with three cars stopping, two women, and one man.  They were a little shocked and surprised that the cookies were free and no donations needed – just for them to have a Merry Christmas.  We also had three boy bike riders who were very happy to have a surprise cookie.

The kids kept saying let us stay for one more car!  Finally, I had to take them in.  I was frozen and I had lots of other things to do, mainly Christmas shopping.  We did not get one more car and the kids said I broke my promise because we didn't get that last car.

I'm not sure what the kids got out of this day...
So what did I get out of this Free Cookie For Sale moment?
  • My heart beams with pride for these kids!
  • I will always try to help make Nyla’s ideas or any kid’s idea happen.
  • Kindness and free does shock people… hmmm I think we need to do more of it!
  • I broke a promise but avoided frostbite.
  • How long would it have been for that one more car to stop?
  • I will always, always stop or turn around to read a sign when I see jumping, screaming kids and a crazy lady holding a paper sign written in crayon on a cold, windy day or any day for that matter.

Nyla, Stella, & Leo, I am so Proud of YOU!!

Here is the only picture, we were too busy having fun and selling free cookies for me to take more.
Special thanks to the Daddy’s – Andy and Chris who helped with the cookie making!

3 LITTLE SNOWMEN!

We played a little game at our house last night.  We closed our eyes and drew different things.  The last round was to draw a snowman.  Boy was I shocked at what mine looked like!  I have not laughed so hard in a long time!! Hope you enjoy a laugh too and I hope my snowman finds his happy place!

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY!

Yesterday was a wonderful day!!  I went on a Christmas shopping date with my husband (dates with him of any kind are always fun!)  Nyla had a fun playdate; we had an awesome dinner of clams casino, baked fish, and asparagus.  It looked so Christmassy with all the tiny chopped red, green peppers and shallots.  Both the clams and fish were caught and cooked by Andy and boy were they tasty!  Our house filled with laughter and giggles.  It was just a fun day.
Today shows the remnants of yesterdays play both children and adults :)  As we gathered around the kitchen counter, Nyla noticed a receipt peeping out of my purse and asked with a giggle, “Why does this say ToysRus?”  I am soo busted!  :)

Hey everyone, have an excellent day!  Heres to you, GREAT, BEAUTIFUL YOU!
